How do I setup a new email account in Microsoft Outlook XP, or remove and recreate an existing account?

Following are the instructions to set up a new e-mail account in Microsoft Outlook XP:

  1. Launch Microsoft Outlook XP Click on the 'Tools' menu Select 'E-mail Accounts' from the menu. The 'E-mail Accounts' screen will appear.
  2. If you are simply creating a new e-mail account, select 'Add a new e-mail account' and click 'Next' (If you are removing and recreating an account already set up in Microsoft Outlook, at this point, select 'view or change existing e-mail accounts', and click next. The screen will now display all the e-mail accounts that have been set up in Microsoft Outlook.
  3. From this screen, you can edit or remove existing e-mail accounts. Click the relevant e-mail account to highlight it, and click the remove button. The screen will prompt you to confirm the deletion of the e-mail account, click yes to confirm this.
  4. To setup a new account, Click the 'Add' button and then select 'Mail' from the menu that appears out to the right. The screen will then require you to select the type of e-mail account you wish to setup. Select POP3 and click on Next.
  5. A form will now appear on the screen, requiring all the details for the e-mail account. Enter the following details:
    • Box titled 'Your Name': enter your own name
    • Box titled 'E-Mail Address': enter your full e-mail address
    • Box titled 'Username':
  6. If your e-mail address ends in .net then use:
    • User / Account Name: your full e-mail address, except if there is a dot before the @ symbol in your e-mail address, replace the dot with an underscore e.g. if your e-mail address is user.name@onetel.net, then type in user_name@onetel.net.
    • If your e-mail address ends with .com then use: User / Account Name: the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol e.g. if your e-mail address is username@onetel.com, then type in username.
  7. Box titled 'password':the password for your e-mail address.
  8. Box titled 'Incoming mail server (POP3)':
    • If your e-mail address ends in .net then use: Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.onetel.net
    • If your e-mail address ends with .com then use: Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.onetel.com
  9. Box titled 'Outgoing mail server (SMTP)': smtp.onetel.net
  10. Once all the necessary information is entered, click 'Next' to continue. Finally click 'Finish' to complete the setup.
